Now that we are going to be doing this content coaching and lesson planning cycles together I really think this will be beneficial to me. Not only will we be having two people observe/ review our lessons but also this forces us to be teaching one specific subject over that period of time. Not that we can’t or won’t teach the other subjects at that time but that this is the time we can really focus on our teaching as a science or math teacher. Because I am in an ELA departmentalized classroom I see this as being challenging but I am looking forward to challenging myself to go to math and science. Though as a learner I have always loved math and science I have always felt more comfortable teaching reading or writing. Getting away from this comfort zone will ultimate get me to incorporate these two subjects into my comfort zone. Now is we could just get a social studies content coach we would be set!
An update from one of my last post:
We now have 12 students who have read and passed a test on the battle of the books. Two of those twelve students have read two books and are both reading their third. Of the thirty-two students left that haven’t taken a test about 20 of them are reading a book. One of the best parts of this is these 12 students aren’t all of my high students, in fact many of my struggling readers are motivated to join the battle of the books team and I have one on his third book! I can not wait to update this again to show you how far these students have gone.
