Since I have been over here I have noticed that they differentiate nearly everything. I have seen it in the normal subject areas in addition to some unique ones, well at least for me. I was able to see a differentiated swimming lesson and spelling test. In the swimming lesson they were able to split the students up from nonswimmers to advanced swimmers with three groups in between. The spelling test was amazing to see though. Each of the student had been given their list or words on Friday and had been split into four groups. When it cam time to call out the test questions I thought this would be a long process. Yet she said the first question for each group one after the other, then reported it once before moving on.
The reason I think this is so amazing is because it truely met the students at their needs. Not pushing and to far and not failing to challenge others. It keeps it all where the specific student needs it to be. Though spelling instruction did not occur my last time in fourth grade and I don't think it will this coming year I can still use this model with other test. Such as giving out a vocabulary test or multipleication test. For both of these I would be able to give the students what they would need in order to meet their learning needs.
